Every day, at least 8000 girls and women in the world are suffering the indignity of being forcibly pinned down and having their genitals mutilated.
Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a gross violation of human rights that aims to control women’s bodies.
The European Union (EU) must fulfill its human rights obligations by ending female genital mutilation and protecting the women and girls who are at risk of it. The EU’s approach should be inclusive, non-stigmatizing and based on international human rights standards.
